聖瑪爾定·包瑞斯（會士）
聖瑪爾定．包瑞斯在1579年12月9日於秘魯利馬出生，其父為西班牙人，母親為秘魯黑人。聖人曾跟隨醫師學習醫術，後加入道明會，慷慨為窮人服務，尤其為奴隸、不分種族、國界，博施仁愛；一生謙卑，克己服從，特別敬愛聖體。
聖人創立了孤兒院，也為窮人建立了兒童醫院；自己過著極端清貧節約的生活；從不吃肉，奉獻很多時間祈禱和默想。
聖人1639年11月4日安逝。1962年5月6日列入聖品，是美洲的第一位黑人聖人。

Saint Martin de Porres, Religious
St. Martin (1579-1639) was born in Lima, Peru, and lived a life of fasting, prayer, and penance as a Dominican. Apprenticed at a young age to a barber-surgeon, he provided medical care for the poor and sick of Lima, especially ministering to slaves. He was devoted to the Blessed Eucharist and was a friend of St. Rose of Lima.
He had established an orphanage and children’s hospital for the poor.
St. Martin was beatified in 1837, by Pope Gregory XVI and canonized on May 6, 1962, by Pope John XXIII. He was the first black saint from the Americas.
Collect
O God, who led Saint Martin de Porres
by the path of humility to heavenly glory,
grant that we may so follow his radiant example in this life
as to merit to be exalted with him in heaven.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
